Wait, but where is Slovenia?
Slovenia is a country of 2 million people located on “the sunny side of the Alps” as we tend to say. It stretches on the area of 20.273 km2 and it resides in the Central Europe. The Republic of Slovenia lies at the heart of Europe, where the Alps and the Mediterranean meet the Pannonian Plain and the mysterious Karst. Most people have difficulties putting us on the map. Well, if you look on the map, keep in mind that Slovakia is definitely not the country we want to be mixed up with – as this happens way too often. Although we speak a Slavic language, we are neither Russia nor their neighbor Georgia. To make locating us easier, let me tell you that our capital Ljubljana is just a 2,5-hour drive from Venice in Italy, a 2-hour flight from Paris, an 1,5-hour flight from Rome and only a 4-hour drive from Vienna.
Why Slovenia?
Summer work in Slovenia is a wonderful opportunity to get in contact with the Slovene way of life, culture, interesting places and language. The best way to describe our county would be: small, but nice. Moreover, everything you've seen in other countries you can find in Slovenia as well, plus something more.
There is no shortage of fun. You can go swimming in the sea, climbing in the mountains and exploring the caves. And all of this in one single day. Nature-lovers can visit different national, regional and nature parks, do some climbing in the Slovene mountains or explore the caves. Extreme sportsmen can take a ride in a hot-air balloon as well as in a sports or acrobatics airplane, do tandem skydiving or bungee jumping as well as go gliding or rafting on the Soča River. More laid-back types can visit one of our wellness hotels and just relax.
In the summer time, you can find a lot of different music festivals, such as Metalcamp, Soča Reggae Riversplash, Rock Otočec and Njoki Summer festival. In Ljubljana, there is also an International summer festival TRNFEST, which has become one of the most popular cultural and artistic events in the city due to its broad program of Slovenian as well as international performers from different fields of music, theatre, dance, literature, film, art as well as its educational and artistic workshops. In addition, the capital offers varied night life.
Slovenia also has several language schools offering Slovene as a foreign language. Among the largest is Centre for Slovene as a Second/Foreign Language. These courses are available throughout the year.
